Description stage 1
Departure from Villa Comunale in Brolo at 8.30 wtih welcome from the autorithies of the community. After about 5 km., we will join a coastal road that runs just a few meters from the sea. We will see a very characteristic stretch of coast with curious rock formations and the Aeolian Islands in the background, as well as the golden beach of Capo D’Orlando.
At around kilometer 21,50, the timed trial begins!! We will ride on excellent asphalt with fairly constant slopes and some short steep sections; the numerous hairpin turns will allow us to admire the enchanting landscape that unfolds before our eyes.
The timed trial is about 7 km. long with a 450 mt. elevation gain (average slope 6,5%) with fairly constant slopes and some short steep sections; the finish line will be inside the town of San Marco D’Alunzio.
A refreshment station and athlete regrouping will follow. After the break, we will face the “Devil’s Wall”: 2 kilometers with a challenging average slope (12,7%) and a really tough central kilometer (average slope 16% with maximum peaks of 21%)!!
After regrouping, we will continue towards Frazzanò-Longi-Galati on a hilly route, cycling in the typical wild and beautiful mountain landscape of the Nebrodi.
At the outskirts of Galati, a wide and fast descent (caution recommended!!) will bring us to the conclusion of the stage on the seafront in Brolo, scheduled for 12.45 p.m. where a plate of spaghetti with mussels offered by the Lido Blue Beach Restaurant awaits us
